Dehgam Milk Producers Call Off Protest After Talks with Govt, Uttam Dairy in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: The protest by cattle breeders in the Dahegam area, which had been continuing for the past 12 days, ended after a settlement was reached in a meeting held in Gandhinagar in presence of State Cooperation Minister Jitu Vaghani. The meeting was attended by representatives of Uttam Dairy and cattle breeders from Dahegam, and the dispute was resolved after detailed discussions.

The protest had begun over dissatisfaction with the milk procurement price offered by Uttam Dairy. Cattle breeders alleged that the purchase price of milk was lower than their production cost, causing financial losses. They also raised issues regarding inadequate pricing based on fat content, delays in payment, and lack of transparency in the dairy’s functioning.

As part of the protest, cattle breeders had stopped supplying milk, which affected milk availability in Dahegam and nearby areas.

During the meeting, cattle breeders presented their grievances in detail, while the dairy management explained its position. Cooperation Minister Jitu Vaghani heard both sides and mediated the discussions, assuring that the government would take steps to ensure justice to the cattle breeders.

The minister stated that the state government is committed to protecting the interests of cattle breeders and will work towards a long-term solution to their problems.

Following the discussions, both sides reached an agreement, after which the cattle breeders decided to call off their protest. With the protest ending, milk supply in the Dahegam area is expected to return to normal, bringing relief to local residents. DeshGujarat
