Unseasonal Rain Likely to Lash Gujarat This Week; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms

Ahmedabad: Parts of Gujarat are set to witness unseasonal rain and thunderstorms over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning for lightning and gusty winds across several districts.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Begins

According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places on March 31 across North and Central Gujarat, including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Arvalli and Mahisagar. Parts of South Gujarat such as Dang, Navsari, and Valsad, along with Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, are also expected to receive rainfall.

In Saurashtra-Kutch, districts including Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch are likely to see similar weather activity.

Thunderstorm Warning Issued

The IMD has warned of light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph in the affected districts on Day 1 (March 31). Similar conditions are expected to return on April 2 and April 3 in parts of North and South Gujarat, as well as Kutch.

Brief Dry Spell, Then Rain Returns

After the initial spell, dry weather is expected across Gujarat on April 1 and April 2. However, rainfall activity is likely to resume from April 2, affecting districts such as Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Narmada, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, and Valsad, along with Kutch.

Light rain and thunderstorms may continue in North Gujarat and Kutch on April 3 before conditions turn dry again from April 4 onwards.

Temperature Trends

Maximum temperatures across the state are expected to fall by 2–3°C over the next three days due to cloud cover and rainfall activity. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged over the coming week.

Recent Weather Conditions

In the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at isolated places in North Gujarat and Saurashtra, while other regions remained largely dry. The highest temperature recorded in the state was 36.7°C in Amreli, while the lowest minimum temperature was 22.4°C, also in Amreli.

Ahmedabad Forecast

For Ahmedabad, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with the maximum temperature around 37°C and the minimum near 26°C. No significant rainfall activity is expected in the city in the immediate term.

Outlook

No major changes in weather conditions are expected beyond April 6, indicating a return to stable conditions after the brief spell of unseasonal rain.

The shifting weather pattern is being driven by active western disturbances and cyclonic circulations over northwest India, influencing atmospheric conditions over Gujarat. DeshGujarat
