Western Railway Commissions ‘Kavach’ Safety System on Vadodara – Nagda Section
March 31, 2026
Vadodara: The Western Railway on Monday commissioned the indigenous ‘Kavach’ train protection system on the Vadodara–Nagda section, marking a significant step towards enhancing rail safety on the high-density route.
The system was formally inaugurated by Western Railway General Manager Pradeep Kumar, who flagged off a special train from Vadodara station. Senior officials, including Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer Rajneesh Kumar and Vadodara Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhadke, along with other railway officers, were present on the occasion.
Developed as an indigenous safety technology, Kavach automatically intervenes in critical situations to minimise human error, thereby significantly reducing the risk of train accidents.
According to Western Railway, the system has been deployed over 224.51 route kilometres, covering the Vadodara–Mangal Mahudi (122.5 km) and Panchpipaliya–Nagda (102.01 km) sections. The installation has been carried out as per the latest Kavach Version 4.0 standards, representing a major technological upgrade.
Western Railway has been steadily expanding the deployment of Kavach across its network. The upgraded Kavach 4.0 system was earlier commissioned on the 344-km Vadodara–Virar section in January 2026, while the Vadodara–Ahmedabad section was covered in December 2025.
Officials said the continued rollout of Kavach reflects Western Railway’s commitment to building a safer, more efficient, and future-ready rail network through the adoption of modern, indigenous technologies. DeshGujarat
