Porbandar Court orders framing of charges against Sanjiv Bhatt

Porbandar Court has ordered to frame charge against controversial suspended IPS Sanjiv Bhatt in custodial torture case.
Sanjiv Bhatt was Superintendent of Police (SP) of Porbandar district in 1998. Bhatt and constable Vajubhai Chau are accused the offense punishable under sections 330 (causing hurt to extort confession), 324 (causing hurt with dangerous weapon) read with section 34 (action done by several persons with common intent) of the Indian Penal Code. Complaint against Bhatt and Vaju was filed by one Naran Jadav for causing him physical and mental torture in police custody for extracting confession in a TADA and Arms Act case.
Jadav was one of the 22 accused in 1994 arms landing case. He was in Sabarmati central jail but was brought to Porbandar on transfer warrant. As per the details of the case filed against Sanjiv Bhatt, then DSP of Porbandar district, Jadav was not only heavily beaten in police custody but was given electric shock on his private part. Not only this but his son was also called and he too was given electric shock on private part. Father and son duo were injured due to this.
