Gandhinagar, 20 February 2014
Congress MLA Rajendra Chavda has submitted his resignation to Speaker of Gujarat assembly today from the post of MLA. Chavda will rejoin the BJP.
Chavda was elected to Gujarat assembly in year 2012 general elections from Himmatnagar seat. Himmatnagar is headquarters of Sabarkantha district in north Gujarat.
BJP had lost several assembly seats in Sabarkantha in 2012 elections. It was believed that there was anti-incumbency here against the local candidates of BJP. Sabarkantha Lok Sabha seat is with BJP, but following what happened in assembly elections, the Lok Sabha seat is considered safe for Congress.
Rajendrasinh is son of former BJP minister Ranjitsinh Chavda. Rajendrasnh joined Congress because he had problem with then local BJP MLA and minister Praful Patel who in last election lost against Rajendrasinh.
Chavda’s resignation will invite by-poll of Himmatnagar assembly seat along with the Lok Sabha elections in April/May this year.
