New Delhi, 11 April 2014
The Supreme Court today junked a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking reconstitution of the Special Investigation Team probing the 2002 Gujarat riots. The plea had questioned the SIT probe giving clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
A bench led by Justice H L Dattu said that the court was not inclined to consider the plea at this stage.
“Reconstitution of SIT is not good at this stage,” said the bench.
At this, petitioner Fatima A, an advocate, sought permission to withdraw her plea. The court allowed her to do so. In her petition, Fatima had sought a new SIT comprising three retired judges from the Supreme Court.
