Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today inaugurated a mobile museum on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and times at his birthplace Porbandar from where the museum-on-wheels will start its journey for Delhi from tomorrow.

The mobile museum has been built on a mini truck by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit to be held in New Delhi between October 26 and October 29, said Joint Secretary in MEA Sanjiv Ranjan, who is in Porbandar today.

“This mobile museum displays various photographs, written messages, audio-video presentations, write-ups and small documentaries regarding the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and his message to the world. It is built for the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit,” said Ranjan.

The museum is at present kept at newly built sports complex in Porbandar and will start its journey tomorrow.

While inaugurating the museum, Patel gave a pot (kalash) having clay of Porbanadar, said Ranjan.

Early this morning, Patel paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary at Porbandar. She first took part in a prayer gathering at Kirti Mandir in the town and then inaugurated the museum on wheels.

“Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel today kept open the museum. Tomorrow, it will go to Rajkot and then it will reach Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad in due course. On the way, people can see the museum, in which, we have installed i-Pads to showcase small documentaries on Gandhiji,” said Ranjan.

After covering various cities in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana, the museum is expected to reach at summit venue in New Delhi during October 26 or October 27.

“Large number of African leaders are expected to take part in the summit. This museum will reach New Delhi during the inauguration ceremony. We will keep it there, so that leaders can know more about Gandhiji and his life,” added Ranjan.
