IIM Ahmedabad breaks Microsoft India’s record
Ahmedabad, 11 December, 2010

Students at IIM-Ahmedabad today broke Microsoft India’s Limca Book record of toppling 7000 dominoes.

IIMA students found this novel way to kick off the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the institute.

The students in a domino show at the historic RJM auditorium toppled over 11,000 dominoes to unveil a design inspired by their Golden Jubilee logo. The previous India record as per the authorities at Limca was 7000 dominoes by Microsoft India at the launch of Windows 7. A team of about 20 students worked through the nights for the past 10 days to practice for this event.

Glen D’Silva, Secretary of Media Cell and one of the coordinators for this event said, “This team has put in a lot of effort and we finally broke the record on Saturday. It’s a befitting kickoff to the Golden Jubilee.”

Anirban Das, a PGP1 student said, “I was in the team of Microsoft which holds the previous record”.

“Making of IIMA Golden Jubilee logo through collapsing dominoes was more complex than Microsoft’s square shape figure that we had created,” Anirban Das added.

Sulabh Jain, a PGP1 coordinator aptly concluded, “The past 10 days was a lot of work, but at the same time all of us enjoyed it and will always remember the journey to this event”.

The domino show kicked-off at 10.30 am at the RJM auditorium on Saturday, December 11, 2010 in the IIMA campus. While it took five hours to arrange thousands of dominoes properly, it took just three minutes to make them collapse.

As dominoes are not available locally, the students of IIMA work hard to scout perfect material to make dominoes. They also employed a carpenter for making of dominoes.
