Land acquisition process begins for proposed Ambaji airport
Ahmedabad, 15 April, 2011

The Government of Gujarat has initiated efforts to set up a new green field airport at north Gujarat’s busiest pilgrim town Ambaji. Ambaji is closer Mount Abu, a busy tourist place and nearest hill station from Ahmedabad. Thus local airport at Ambaji makes sense, and therefore the state government has included Ambaji in its plan that involves developing of 11 new airports.
Main thing needed to develop any airport is – right kind of land. The government has identified proper piece of land in this hilly area of Ambaji. The government land is located at Nanasada, Abhapura and Torda villages. However only government land is not enough and therefore efforts are going on to acquire private land in this area.
Gujarat government has roped in Deccan Airways to start intra-state chartered air service, however the task of acquiring land and developing an airfield is going on very slowly at various places like Ambaji and Dwarka.
