Gujarat government has initiated efforts to take back 15-acre Bhavnirjar land which is presently occupied by spiritual organization Swadhyay pariwar.

The piece of land is located on Ahmedabad’s one of the most expensive area known as Satellite road.

The land was first given on 15-year lease to Swadhyay Pariwar in 1971. The lease was renewed in 1986 for another 15-year, however in 2001, the government refused to renew the lease.

Number of delegations of Swadhyay Pariwar regularly visited the government offices and ministers between 2001 and 2006 for renewal, however none of these attempts yielded success. On the contrary the government sent officers to check whether the land is in use for the purpose for which it was given on lease. It should be mentioned that the land was given on lease by the government for Rushi Krushi activity under which the Swadhyay Pariwar runs a school or Vaidik agriculture without charging fees.

After 2006, a delegation of Swadhyay Pariwar met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. According to one prominent person of Swadhyay Pariwar, Shri Modi called Amit Shah and received a file on this issue. “Modi told us that he would personally look into this issue.”

While Swadhyay Pariwar people started believing that their problem of Bhavnirjar land was over, on 20th of April this year they received a letter from Ahmedabad Collector asking to vacate 15-acre land.

Swadhyay Pariwar has again sent a letter to the Chief Minister on 1st June requesting him for renewal of their lease for another 30 years. On the other hand the Collector office has communicated that the land should be taken back, as it is situated on prime location and government needs to utilize it.

Meanwhile Swadhyay Pariwar has filed petition in the Gujarat High Court seeking detail of which 15 acre piece of land the government wants to repossess.
