BJP retains Kadi Assembly seat as Rajendra Chavda wins by huge margin
June 23, 2025
Kadi: The counting of votes for the Kadi Assembly seat has concluded, with BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda securing a resounding victory. The ruling party has retained the seat with a lead of 39,427 votes.
The BJP received a total of 99,709 votes, while Congress candidate Ramesh Chavda secured 60,282 votes. Aam Aadmi Party’s Jagdish Chavda received 3,089 votes, and 1,701 votes were cast for NOTA.
After the counting of votes began at 8 AM, the ruling BJP candidate maintained the lead throughout the counting in all 22 rounds. After winning the polls, Chavda said, “This is the victory of the Sangathan and the voters of Kadi. The public has accepted the way of working of the government and has given such a huge mandate,” the MLA-elect said when asked about his victory margin.
The by-election in Kadi was necessitated following the death of BJP MLA Karsanbhai Solanki. Polling concluded peacefully on Thursday. According to provisional data from the Election Commission of India, the Kadi constituency recorded a voter turnout of 56.89%.
With the BJP winning this seat, its strength in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly has risen from 161 to 162. A total of eight candidates contested the seat, but the main contest remained between the ruling BJP and the main opposition party, Congress.
Other parties that fielded candidates included the Aam Aadmi Party, the Shankersinh Vaghela-led Prajashakti Democratic Party, and smaller outfits such as the Bharatiya Jan Parishad, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Party, and the Aapki Awaz Party.
This round of bypolls also marked a political shift, as the AAP and Congress—despite being alliance partners at the national level—chose to contest separately in Gujarat. DeshGujarat
