Red, beautiful and speedy – it was India’s one of the most discussed gifts nine years back. Today it is here in Gujarat, on the roads of India’s fastest developing city Surat.
This is the story of red Ferrari 360 Modena that was gifted to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar by F1 legend Michael Schumacher on behalf of the Fiat company when Tendulkar touched cricket legend Donald Bradman’s world record.
The car, most discussed due to its association with Schumacher, Sachin and due to import duty related controversies has been bought by Surat’s City Lights based construction businessman Jayesh Desai(38, same age as Sachin).
Desai took delivery of car from Sachin Tendulkar’s home in Bandra, Mumbai after Sachin reacted positively to his request of buying it.
“Wherever I go in this car, I am surrounded by people. It is fun to ride this car on the roads of Surat,” said happy owner Jayesh Desai.
When Ferrari was being driven to Surat from Mumbai, Desai was on the phone with his chauffer instructing him to drive at not more than 120 kmph, as the car can reach a highest speed of 360 kmph.
Desai who heads Raj Hans group of industries in Surat is not ready to declare the details of his Ferrari deal(however sources say the deal was in crores). According to Desai, the four-engine car has traveled only 9,000 km and it gives average of 3 km per liter. Desai says Sachin has kept this car well, and there’s no single scratch on its body. Desai likes ‘sweet firing’ of his car.
When asked about his friendship with Sachin Tendulkar, Desai replied, “Kindly ask me only about the car and nothing about Sachin.”
It should be mentioned that this is Sachin Tendulkar’s second car that has landed in Surat. Earlier city based diamond baron Nagjibhai Sankaria had bought Sachin Tendulkar’s BMW car.
Sachin is soon shifting to his new five-storey bungalow on Perry Cross Road in Bandra. This 10,000sqft property has two floors below the ground level, one for his 40 cars that include BMW, a Porsche Boxster and a Mercedes C-36.
