Engineering students to study Swami Vivekananda in Gujarat

Students of bachelor of engineering, diploma engineering, bachelor of pharmacy and master of computer application courses in Gujarat Technological University(GTU) will study the principles of Swami Vivekananda to develop their personality, from next semester as the GTU has taken decision to introduce a new subject named as ‘Swami Vivekananda Contributor Personality Development Programme’ in all degree, diploma and master of computer application(MCA) courses. Students will have to apepar for the exam in the sixth and eigth semesters for this four-credit compulsory subject.
Professors who teach English are assigned responsibility of teaching the new subject.
According to GTU’s incharge registrar GP Vadodaria, the new subject is being introduced for personality development of students. Decision on whether to include the result of this subject in merit or not is pending as of now.Teachers are being trained to teach this subject at present. On every Saturday and Sunday 50 teachers are called for training.
Reference books covering this course are “To have or to be’ by Erich Fromm, ‘Personality development’ and ‘Karma yoga’ by Swami Vivekananda, ‘Six pillars of self esteem’ by Nathaniel Branden and ‘Seven habits of highly effective people’ by Stephen Covey among others.
