Gujarat has the highest number of Paper mills in India

Gujarat has highest number of paper mills compare to any other state in the country.
The Minister of state for Commerce and Industry ministry Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia in a reply to question in Lok Sabha said that Gujarat has 130 paper mills, while Uttar Pradesh has 115, Maharashtra has 112, Tamil Nadu has 88, Punjab has 75 and Andhra Pradesh has 52 paper mills.
The minister admitted that the paper industry is confronted with high production cost and technology obsolescence and added that import of machinery and raw material for paper industry ( pulp, waste paper) is allowed either without customs duty or on concessional rate of customs duty.
