In pictures: Sehwag, Pathan, Munaf, Pragyan Ojha, Parimal Nathwani grace the function of Saurashtra Night Cricket Tournament

The countryside cricket lovers of rural Jamnagar witnessed a very exciting final match at Bhanvad between Sorath XI and Ram XI yesterday night. The excitement was due to the presence of the star Indian cricketers Virendra Sehwag, Yusuf Pathan, Munaf Patel and Pragyan Ojha who witnessed the final along with the GCA Vice-President and MP Mr. Parimal Nathwani.

(Late) Hematbhai Rambhai Madam Memorial Trust organized a month-long night cricket tournament for the district youths wherein 120 teams had participated. The final match yesterday was witnessed by a crowd of as many as 20,000 spectators. Subsequent to the final match won by Sorath XI, president of Hematbhai Rambhai Madam Memorial Trust Shri Poonamben Madam presented a cheque of Rs. 35,000 and the winners’ trophy to the winning team. The runners up team were presented with a cheque of Rs. 25,000 and the trophy. Several other individual prizes and trophies were presented by the star cricketers and the dignitaries including Mr. Parimal Nathwani.

Earlier, the Ram XI won the toss and decided to bat. It scored only 57 runs in twelve overs. Rahul Der, the bowler of Sorath XI claimed three wickets in three overs by giving just nine runs which put the Ram XI in a very pitiable shape. Sorath XI won the match in just ten overs losing only one wicket. Bashir of Sorath XI hit 22 runs and turned the table claiming the victory.

The people celebrated the event with a music band and DJ. The dignatories who remained present included the MLAs Raghavji Patel and Jawaharbhai Chavda and several local as well as district leaders. Organizers had a tough time to control the excited youths and children who rushed to obtain autographs and interact with their favorite cricketers.
