Videocon had signed MoU with Gujarat government during year 2007-8 Vibrant Gujarat summit to set up power plant project, however the project has not kicked off due to alleged cheating by local land broker.
According to the details of criminal case filed by Videocon, the company contacted Bhuj based land broker Dashrath Patel and assigned him a task to acquire the land for power project at Zapodar. Dashrath Patel promised to complete the task. According to Videocon, Dashrath Patel in phase manner was paid Rs. 20-25 crore in-total. Dashrath delayed the land acquisition, but finally delivered a piece of land. Later when Videocon started the work on the ground, someone else claimed that the land was actually belonging to him and stopped the project work. Due to this, the project just couldn’t kick off.
The company has file case against Dashrath Patel in criminal court alleging that Patel was paid to acquire a title clear land, but he cheated the company by handing over disputed piece of land.
