DRI seizes dhow Habibi in gold smuggling case

A dhow ‘Habibi’ has been seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence(DRI) in connection with smuggling of 46.300 kg gold.
Habibi was located at Jam Salaya port in Jamnagar district. Habibi operates between Dubai and Gujarat and transports sheep and goats.
Gandhidham DRI has arrested Salaya Mandvi’s Hasam Alimamad, Rumi alias Hasam Tito, Jam Khambhalia’s Juma Khamisha Bhokhal, Jam Salaya’s Mobin Amad Sandhar, Salaya’s Sobhania Abid Mamad and Rajkot’s Rameshbhai Karmata and seized 46.300 kg smuggled gold. All accused were produced in court in Gandhidham on 21 April and sent to Palara jail following court order.
Gold was smuggled from Dubai to Gujarat through Habibi dhow. Landing point was Tuna port in Kutch which has been infamous for smuggling in the past too.
