A small example of how dishonesty at ground level adds to GSRTC’s loss

Rajkot, 14 June, 2014
We don’t know how much it contributes to Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation(GSRTC)’s loss, but this small incident shows one of the reasons why GSRTC is making loss(which is covered by state government through grant).
Dhirubhai Sorathia and Rajendrasinh Rana of ST’s line checking squad on Thursday caught a bus conductor Ranjitsinh Chudasama who had pocketed money from five passengers without issuing tickets. The squad members followed the bus from Rajkot to Padadhari bypass and stopped it there. It was found that five passengers were without ticket. Two of them were issued ticket in haste after the conductor saw checking squad on duty. Three were without ticket but they had paid for ticket. Chudasama is likely to be suspended after Gondal depot manager’s report is received.
Author’s note: Corruption, inefficiency and mismanagement at officers level could be a major reason behind GSRTC’s loss, but passengers can at least show alertness on their part and insist on getting ticket while traveling in GSRTC buses. The virus of dishonesty has to be countered with honesty, alertness and actions.
