Police on Monday arrested slain gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s younger brother Shahnawazuddin and five others with three rifles, one pistol and 41 cartridges at Dharad village under Bilpank police station in Ratlam district according to Ratlam superintendent of police Avinash Sharma. One tractor and one jeep were also seized by the police. Police registered a case against them for criminal trespass, fraud, rioting and possessing illegal weapon.
Out of the seized arms, the licences of two rifles had already expired in 2013, while two weapons were without licences. At time of arrest, all the six accused were trying to threaten one widow, Khatun Bee, in a bid to grab her land.
Sohrabuddin was killed in an encounter by the Gujarat police in 2005 in Gujarat. In 1995, Shahnawazuddin and his elder brother Sohrabuddin had been booked for possessing 40 AK-47 assault rifles. The arms were recovered from their house in Jhirnia village of Ujjain district.
