MEA Jaishankar visits National Maritime Heritage Complex, Lothal

Lothal: Union Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar today visited Lothal and the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) project site.

The visit commenced with a tour of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) site at Lothal, one of the prominent cities of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. The site visit was guided by the Additional Director General of ASI, Ministry of Culture, who briefed the Minister on the site’s historical and cultural significance and provided insights on the ongoing excavation and its findings.

Following this, the Minister proceeded to the NMHC project site, where a detailed presentation was made to the Minister, showcasing the progress, vision, and unique features of the upcoming complex.

The Minister visited various key components of the NMHC project, including the drop-off area, jetty block, entry block, Lothal Town Recreation, Lothal Corridor, six state-of-the-art museum galleries, water holding tank, IL 38 Indian Navy transport aircraft, and INS Nishank.

During the visit, the Minister appreciated the efforts being undertaken to bring India’s maritime legacy to the forefront. He noted that the NMHC is “a tribute to the civilizational brilliance of ancient India and its long-standing maritime prowess.” He further emphasized that such initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to reviving and showcasing India’s glorious maritime traditions for the world.

The NMHC, envisioned as a world-class maritime museum and heritage complex, aims to celebrate India’s seafaring traditions and contributions to global maritime history.
