Diamond business in Gujarat hit due to quota agitation by Patels (Video)

Diamond business was hit after clashes between police and the Patel clan, demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, brought Gujarat to a standstill. Clashes spread in the state after police arrested a young leader of the influential Patel clan, Hardik Patel who led a huge rally on Tuesday (August 25) night. India’s diamond polishing and cutting city of Surat came to a grinding halt as the diamond manufacturers and workers voluntarily participated in the rally on Wednesday and Thursday. President of the Surat Diamond Association, Dineshbhai Navadiya estimated a loss of nearly 1,000 crore (10 billion) rupees.
