Revolt in Gujarat unit of NSUI, top leaders resign

More than 300 office bearers of the Gujarat unit of National Students Union of India(NSUI), a students wing of Indian National Congress have submitted their resignations to put pressure on party ahead of upcoming polls of 6 municipal corporations, municipalities and panchayats.

They have resigned protesting neglect of NSUI workers in selection of candidates for local body polls by Congress party in Gujarat.

State president of NSUI Adityarajsinh Gohil, two national general secretaries Gulabsinh Rajput and Shahnawaz Sheikh, state vice president, state secretary Subhan Saiyad and Yashwantsinh Vaghela, Ahmdabad city president Dhanrajsinh Vaghela, vice president Vishalsinh Gurjar, University senate welfare members Pravin Nakum, Mahavirsinh Rathod, Azhar Rathod are among those who have sent resignation to national president of NSUI via email.

According to Adityarajsinh Gohil who heads NSUI in Gujarat there are total 8,000 seats that are going for election, of which NSUI had demanded only 30 seats for its workers, but even that demand has not been granted.

National delegate Vishwanathsinh Vaghela, state generals secretary Rahul Parikh, vice president Ketan Makwana, state secretary Virendrasinh Vaghela are among those who stayed away from submitting resignations.

It should be mentioned that with the fear of rebel activities, the state Congress has yet not publicly announced any list of candidates. The party is conveying individuals about their selection. BJP on the contrary has started announcement of candidates of municipal corporation elections, polling for which is going to take place on November 22.

Update: A group of NSUI rebels today met party leader Shankersinh Vaghela at his residence. They were satisfied after the meeting as they were assured by state party incharge Gurudas Kamat that party would give ticket to not just 33 but if needed even 53. NSUI workers said they were in Congress and will continue to be in Congress.
