Gujarat govt gets centre’s nod for relay of 16 DTH channels

Gandhinagar

Gujarat government has for the first time in India launched 16 DTH educational channels under the title of ‘Vande Gujarat’ on 14 October 2015 but no one in common public has been able to watch any of these channels due to lack of their availability on popular platforms.

The state government had written a letter to the Government of India and the Prime Minister regarding permission to air 16 DTH educational channels for its smooth reach to targeted audience. In response to this demand, the centre has given nod to Gujarat govt run Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo Informetical(BISAG) to relay the channels through Doordarshan, cable TV and open to air DTH satellite. With this permission, 16 DTH educational channels will be available to educational institutes, school-colleges and interior areas without additional set-top box.

A letter in this regard has been sent to Gujarat government by Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India.

Welcoming this decision, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said, “I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Central Government for allotting a transponder on the same satellite on which Doordarshan channels are telecasted. This will now enable the viewers to access Gujarat Government’s educational channels on cable and open-to-air DTH, without any additional set-top box.”
