Gandhinagar
Congress today distanced itself for a disputed ‘caste based’ statement of its Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Mr. Praveen Rashtrapal.
The prominent OBC face of the party in Gujarat, Mr. Rashtrapal had allegedly said in a function in Gandhinagar that if upper caste people want to take benefit of reservation then they should marry their daughters to Dalits.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi in a statement released here today said that Mr. Rashtrapal’s statement was his personal opinion. ‘Congress party do not support any such statement or opinion,’ the brief statement said.
Meanwhile, the members of upper caste Patel or Patidar community, which is running a pro reservation stir in the state, today staged a protest against Mr. Rashtrapal’s statement near Gandhi Ashram.
