Ahmedabad to Get Two More Pet Dog Crematoriums
March 24, 2026
Ahmedabad: With the aim of giving pet owners an opportunity to bid a proper farewell to their dogs, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) started a pet crematorium at Behrampura earlier this year. The crematorium has already conducted the cremation of 108 dogs, and looking at the response and the rising number of pet dogs, the civic body has decided to set up two more such facilities.
The AMC’s Cattle Nuisance Control (CNC) department has decided to establish two additional pet crematoriums, one in the eastern part of the city and another in the western zone, at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh. Officials said tenders for the project have already been floated.
The existing facility has not only been used by residents of Ahmedabad, but also by pet owners from Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and even Udaipur, who travelled to the city to perform the last rites of their pets. So far, 32 families have voluntarily contributed a total of Rs 1.06 lakh to the civic body in memory of their animals.
Officials stated that 19,347 pet dogs have been registered with the AMC by 17,017 owners, and registration documents are mandatory while booking a cremation slot. DeshGujarat
