Ahmedabad: Leading e-commerce player Amazon India (Amazon.in) today announced the launch of its largest fulfillment center (warehouse for keeping sellers items for quick delivery to buyers) in Bhayla of Ahmedabad district in presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Vice President (customer fulfillment) of Amazon India Akhil Saxena said that the 3,50,000 cubic feet storage capacity fulfillment center was the largest among all the existing ones in India. It was second one in Gujarat with the other one also situated in Ahmedabad. The combined capacity of both the centers in Gujarat was around 450000 cubic feet. He said that Amazon would take the total number of such centers across India to 41 before Diwali.

The centers meant for keeping the items of sellers, were so far situated in 13 states of India.

Saxena said that Gujarat has been chosen for setting up of the largest fulfillment center as it has seen a robust growth in the sellers base in last four years. ‘22000 of our total 2,00000 sellers across the country are from Gujarat,’ he said adding that it would help the company serve the prime customers in better manner with one and two day delivery period. He said that 6000 of the Gujarati sellers were based in Ahmedabad. Apart from the 2 fulfillment centers, there were two small warehouses or short centers in Ahmedabad and Surat also and around 10 delivery centers in Gujarat. We have trained tribal artisans and woman entrepreneurs to sell their products through our platform.

On the occasion CM Vijay Rupani said that Amazon has signed MoU with the government of Gujarat for promoting and training tribal artisans and women. It is providing global markets for their products and the other swadeshi items. The fulfillment center was providing jobs to around 500 locals.

Minister of Tribal Welfare department Ganpat Vasava, Ahmedabad collector Avantika Singh were also present on the occasion.
