Congress is partner in GST decisions, it should not spread falsehoods: PM Modi

By Mahesh Lad, Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today while addressing Gujarat Gaurav Maha Sammelan of State BJP said:

The decisions pertaining to Goods and Service Tax(GST) are taken jointly by all State governments and the Centre. GST related decisions are not taken by parliament, they are not taken by Narendra Modi. All governments of various political parties take decisions including the Congress governments of Karnataka, Punjab and Meghalaya. Gujarat government occupies 30th portion of that meeting room. All are equal in that meeting which takes decisions on GST. Congress people have no right to spread falsehoods on GST as they all are partner in it.

I have been in contact with traders. I am proud of the fact that the smallest trader wants to be free from government hassle. He likes GST because it is the best way. But this is new system. We had said it that we would review it in three months. We discussed in meeting how much can be done to resolve the issues. We convinced Congress governments that such and such things are needed to be addressed and we made change. This is new system. It has been introduced for the first time in independent India. If there’s some fault, the government tries to fix it. And that’s why lakhs of new traders are joining the system. A businessman in this country feels this system is necessary but he seeks simplification. Each GST council meet discusses such issues.

Some people provoke traders and ask them that government would digg old records based on fresh GST filing and therefore one should not enroll into the system. I want to say that old books wiwll not be opened. Young businessman community wants to go ahead on this path and it is the duty of government that there’s no speed breaker.
