Around 200 Dalits including victims and family members of Una flogging incident accept Buddhism

Around 200 people from Dalit community including the family members and victims of Una flogging case of July 2016 today accepted Buddhism on he occasion of Buddha Purnima in their native Samdhiyana village of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat.
The conversion ceremony was conducted by 3 Buddhist monks amid tight security.
One such person later said that they were happy after changing the religion. ‘We are looked down upon as dalits, so we have taken this step,’ he said.
A Dy SP rank official along with Una PI and other policemen remained present on the spot to prevent any possible protest.
Notably at least eight people from a Dalit family in Samdhiyana including Babu Sarvaiya, Vashram Sarviaya, Ashok Sarviaya, Ramesh Sarvaiya etc were brutally beaten up for allegedly skinning a cow.
The incident had hogged lime-light across the nation and several big leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal had visited the victims.
