Live: Smriti Irani addresses media on four years of BJP led NDA govt in Centre

Ahmedabad: Union Minister and firebrand woman BJP leader Smriti Irani today said that the attempts of unity of Opposition parties was the biggest indication/example of PM Narendra Modi’s popularity and political prowess and was also like a back-handed compliment to him that they don’t have the capability to face him alone.

She also said that despite the Opposition unity, BJP led NDA would win the 2019 election with majority.

Addressing a press conference here at the GMDC auditorium to share the achievements of 4 years of Modi government , Irani to a query regarding opposition unity said,’ The unity of opposition parties was a message to the people of India that they are struggling for their selfish motives and to somehow sustain them. It also has a message that the opposition parties does not have the capability to win the hearts of people of India with their own ideology, policy-programme or leadership.”

She said, ‘ The opposition unity was also a back-handed compliment to PM Modi that they can’t face him alone.’

Irani said that despite attempts of opposition, BJP led NDA under Modi had won overwhelmingly in 2014 Loksabha polls and would repeat the feat in 2019 also.

She said that development as usual would be the poll plank of the party in the 2019 elections also. To a query she said that the party strategy to counter opposition unity and the recent results of some of the by-polls could not be discussed publicly. She also said that party president Amit Shah has made it clear that the BJP was ready to contest elections against Shiv Sena.

To a query about Petrol-Diesel price-rise, She said that the hike for petrol was during Congress regime an average Rs 4 per liter while during NDA rule it has been brought down to Rs 1 per liter. The petroleum minister was repeatedly saying that bringing these items under the ambit of GST could give relief to public but the center or any one state could not do it so alone.

She also said that the group of petroleum exporting nations OPEC’s decision to regulate the production has also adversely affected the prices.

To another query without naming Trinamool congress or the Mamta Banerjee government directly she alleged that the party which was in the forefront of the opposition alliance against Modi was indulged in targeted killing of BJP cadres in West Bengal.
