One dead, 5 rescued in Ahmedabad building collapse incident, rescue operation completed

Ahmedabad:

The rescue operation in Odhav area in the Eastern part of the city where 2 of the total 70 blocks four storied buildings constructed around 2 decades ago as a government residential scheme had collapsed killing one person and injuring 5 others.

Chief Fire Officer M F Dastur today said that one body was recovered well past mid-night from the rubble while five others were earlier rescued and hospitalized.

‘Now the rescue part has been completed. It has been confirmed that there were no more people in the rubble. However, the work of removing the debris will continue till a few more hours,’ he said.

Notably, the buildings known as Shivam flats had collapsed at around 8 pm last night. Apprehensions were that more than 10 people were trapped in it.

MoS home Pradipsinh Jadeja, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra, Mayor BIjal Patel etc have rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue operation in which 5 teams of NDRF were also involved.

The AMC had issued vacation notice for the dilapidated building two days back and also vacated all around 150 people from it but around half a dozen of them from one or two families sneaked again.

On the other hand the residents in similar buildings around have also become fearful after the incident and wanted to shift elsewhere.
