Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court today granted bail to former Amreli SP Jagdish Patel, who was arrested in sensational Bitcoin extortion and loot case on April 23 last year.
The court granted him conditional bail at a surety of Rs 50,000. The court has also granted bail to another accused and then LCB PI Anant Patel. Their bail pleas were earlier rejected by lower court.
Earlier a local court here had yesterday granted temporary bail to another accused in the case and former MLA Nalin Kotadiya yesterday for the treatment of his ailing mother. Kotadiya was arrested from Maharashtra in October last year.
The sensational case was lodged on the complaint of Surat builder Shailesh Bhatt, who has alleged that he was kidnapped by PI Anant Patel and several other policemen of Amreli LCB. Bhatt alleged that after his abduction from Gandhinagar, he was kept in a farm house near hare under abduction from where he was forced to reveal the code for transfer of 200 bitcoins worth Rs 12 crore. He had also alleged that one of his partner Kirit Paladia was the main conspirator and also former MLA Kotadia and his relative Sanjay Kotadia were involved in it.
PI Anant Patel on his arrest in March last year had revealed that he had abducted the builder on instructions from SP Jagdish Patel.
Interestingly, the complainant Bhatt himself was found to be accused in another bitcoin case and is still absconding. CID-Crime was investigating the case.
