Narendra Modi in Mumbai lashes out on PM and Pakistan
Mumbai, DeshGujarat, 28 November, 2008
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi visited Mumbai on Friday morning to pay respect to senior police officers who were killed fighting with the terrorists on Wednesday and to show support to the security forces.
Modi departed from Ahmedabad at 6:30 am and visited Anti Terrorism Squad(ATS) Chief Hemant Karkare’s house at around 8.00 in morning. Modi also visited Encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar’s house, JJ Hospital and Oberoi Hotel . Modi wanted to go near the Oberoi Trident hotel in a car, to take stock of the situation but security agencies denied him a permission to do so.
Addressing media outside the terrorist attacked Oberoi Hotel Modi said “The terror strikes in Mumbai is an attack not only on Mumbai but on the whole nation, on the sovereignty and self respect of the nation. The people of India should determine to root out the terrorism menace. The country had pinned a lot of hope on the Prime Minister but his address was disappointing. He should urgently convene a meeting of Chief Ministers to discuss issues of coastal security. I am here in Mumbai today, I wanted to come to Mumbai yesterday but the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister requested me not to come yesterday. In this time of sorrow, I can’s stop myself and therefore I have come. I have come upto the Hotel, I requested the police to permit me to take a round in the hotel but I was denied permission but I wished I could congratulate the Army, Police and Fire brigade jawans state away in the field.”
“Pakistan has violated the UN convention on the use of land and sea routes for launch of terror strikes against India. This is for the first time Pakistan has allowed use of sea routes to further terrorism against India,” Modi said.
“Terrorists have targeted US, British and Israeli citizens and made Mumbai a place that has been hit by international terrorism,” He said.
“One-year ago I had raised the issue in the national security meet that Pakistan’s maritime police not only arrests Indian fishermen who would stray in their territory but would also confiscate their boats. Earlier the Pakistan authorities would return their boats but off late they have stopped doing so. And these boats would be misused by them against the Indian interest,”Modi said.
Modi announced a sum of Rs one crore for the kin of martyred jawans, who were killed fighting valiantly in the Mumbai attacks.
