AMC Razes Mosque, Dargah in Juhapura Obstructing Vishala – Sarkhej Elevated Corridor Project
March 30, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday demolished two religious structures, including a mosque and a dargah, that were obstructing ongoing work on the elevated corridor along the Vishala–Sarkhej National Highway stretch.
According to officials from AMC’s Estate/TDO Department, the action was undertaken in Election Ward No. 34 (Maktampura) after completing due procedures under the Town Planning (TP) Act. The drive focused on clearing structures situated along the TP road required for the highway project.
In a press release, AMC stated that the occupants had earlier approached the Gujarat High Court through a special petition. In its order dated December 23, 2025, the court directed the voluntary removal and handover of the encroachments within two months.
Following the order, AMC removed most residential and commercial structures in the area, excluding one mosque and the Haji Bawani Dargah in Juhapura earlier this year.
On Monday, the remaining two structures were also cleared with police support. The operation was carried out with assistance from Vejalpur Police Station personnel, along with the deployment of two anti-encroachment vehicles, one JCB machine, and around 20 labourers from a private contractor.
Officials said the clearance drive will continue in the coming days to facilitate the unhindered progress of the infrastructure project. DeshGujarat
