All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi today in Ahmedabad visited Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, National Institute of Design and addressed youth Congress workers at a meeting on Gujarat College grounds.

Thank you Gujarat for Mahatma Gandhi

Addressing Youth Congress members in Ahmedabad, Rahul thanked Gujarat for giving Mahatma Gandhi to the nation and said, “I keep Mahatma Gandhi’s quotations book on my desk. When I end my work, I read couple of quote from it. People say, I am young, inexperienced and you may have also heard people saying that I am a child. But when some question strike in my mind whose answer I am unable to get, I open Gandhiji’s book and read some quotes. Gujarat gave Gandhiji to the nation and we got freedom from him. In a way we can say that Gujarat delivered us freedom by gifting Gandhiji and nation has been thankful to Gujarat for this time and again, but I am more thankful personally too because Gujarat has given me a personal guide who shows me a path in my life when I need. I am thankful to Gujarat for this.”

A question at NID that touched him

Rahul Gandhi addressing Youth Congress members in Ahmedabad said, “Today when I visited Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, they told me that Gandhiji used to operate speen wheel for four-five hours a day. They also told me that Gandhiji penned down lakhs of letters sitting in this ashram. Then I visited National Institute of Design where brightest lot of the students in the field of design do study. During my interaction with students, one of the youths asked me that why today’s politicians are far away from common people? Leaders travel in long luxurious cars these days….And I thought that there is a contrast between Gandhi’s leadership and today’s. Before 60-70 years, television was not there, internet was not in existence but Gandhiji continued live connection with the people through lakhs of letters that he wrote. Today we have TV, radio but there is a distance.”

Two types of politics, and his choice

“As someone in his speech earlier mentioned, there are two types of politics; One is about dividing the people. Britishers did that and many others also do this but the another type of politics is about connecting the people. If you go slightly dipper into this, there is one more difference in these two types of politics. In divide type of politics, they create fear among one section of people from another section of people while in connect type of politics emphasize is on confidence and fearlessness. Gandhiji connected the people, he worked for making people fearless. This type of politics is needed today,” Rahul said.

Rahul said that this nation would rise and lead the world not due to it’s leaders but on the shoulders of common people, poor and youths.
