Thousands donate blood in Ahmedabad’s Mega Blood Donation Camp

Thousands of people flocked to donate blood at the mega blood donation camp organized jointly by Ahmedabad Medical Association and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and sponsored by NK Proteins Ltd, a leading manufacturer of edible oil. In order to encourage Amdavadis to donate blood, who’s who of the city including Ashok Bhatt, speaker, Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Kanaji Thakor, Mayor-Ahmedabad, Surendra Patel, Member of Parliament (Rajyasabha), Pankaj Patel, CMD, Zydus Cadila, Nilesh Patel, Managing Director, NK Proteins Limited, Nimesh Patel, Chairman, NK Proteins Limited, Asit Vora, Chairman of Standing Committee etc visited the venue of the camp. For the first time, hundreds of doctors have also donated blood in this camp.
While AMC has joined the initiative to mark the 600th anniversary of the city, Ahmedabad Medical Association organized the camp to mark the World Blood Donor Day. The main objective of the initiative was to create awareness about necessity of donating blood, dispel some fear & misperception attached with it and to collect maximum number of blood units on a single day at a single site.
Heavy rush was evident from the morning at Gujarat University Exhibition Centre, the venue of the camp. While commenting on the success of the camp, Dr. Jitendra Patel, President, Ahmedabad Medical Association, said, “In line with expectation, Amdavadis turned out in large number for blood donation and made the event a great success. To manage such a large scale blood donation was a difficult task, but with the help from various social organizations & hospital, we have carried out successfully.”
Mr. Nilesh Patel, Managing Director, NK Proteins Limited, said, “People of Ahmedabad have once again shown that they are committed for any social service. Despite heavy rush, the camp concluded smoothly thanks co-operation from the hospitals and other organizations.”
Dr. Bharat Patel, Joint Replacement Surgeon, Samved Hospital, said, “The camp has created history, as blood donation on such a large scale was never done before at least in Gujarat. It will also create awareness among the people about the necessity of the blood donation.”
Expressing similar view, Praful Raval, Chairman, Health Committee, AMC, said, “The spontaneous response to the mega blood donation camp clearly indicates that citizens of Ahmedabad are always committed to share social responsibility. By participating in the camp, they have celebrated the 600th year of Ahmedabad’s inception in real sense.”
Mr. Mukesh Patel, President, Red Cross, said, “It was a great event
and will encourage the people to donate blood voluntarily in days to
come.”
