After Khichdi, another popular comedy serial Tarak mehta ka ooltah chashmah will also come to big screen. However at this stage it is just a desire, and any move in this direction will take place only after a good filmy screen-play is worked out, said Aasit Modi, Producer of the serial, under the banner of Neela Telefilms.
Modi was in Ahmedabad on Friday with his actor team including Dilp Joshi(Jethalal), Disha Wakani(Dayaben), Tapu(Bhavya Gandhi), and Mayur Wakani(Sundar mama) to attend garba event of city’s Orient Club.
He said, “in TV serial, we include all kinds of tastes, and create situations, but when it comes to film media, we need to have one single story to grip and entertain the audience. TV is TV and film is film. We first need to have a content suitable for large screen. Once we work out on that, we may definitely go to that media with ooltah chashmah team.”
When asked about future episodes of ooltah chashmah, Mehta replied, “in forthcoming episodes you may see the families visiting abroad. Also we may shoot at some places in Gujarat, like we have done before. Once winter is set, we can plan such things.”
Popular ‘Dayabhabhi’ of the serial, Disha Wakani was excited when asked about Tarak Mehta serial’s plan to enter the large screen. “Who would not like to go to big screen? Of course that would be fun. JD Majethia has opened the gates of big screen for popular TV serials. Tarak Mehta can be the next.”
It should be mentioned here that Tarak mehta ka ooltah chashmah is highest watched comedy series in India presently. It occupies no.1 position in 8.30 slot consistently. The serial is highest watched TV programme in Gujarat. When vegetarian dominating Gujarat viewers complained about KFC advertisement in Tarak mehta serial’s break, the channel removed the ad. The Producer, and main actors of the serial are Gujarati, and the story revolved around a Gujarati Gada family of Jethalal, Dayaben, Dadaji, and Tapu. The serial is aired on Sub TV from Monday to Thursday, and the show is in such a demand, that it may be extended to Friday as well. Most of the actors of the serial are from theatre background, which makes it a classic series so far as acting is concerned. The serial – Tarak mehta ka ooltah chashmah reminds us popular classic series like Yeh jo hai jindagi, Malgudi days, or Filmy chakkar.
So what is the secret of this show’s success, we asked lead actor Dilip Joshi(Jethalal), and he replied: “the success is in its simplicity. This is a simple story without negativity. It tells story of me and you. Its about common man. To create complicated humor is easy, but to create simple humor is challenging. And Tarak mehta serial has succeeded in creating a simple humour. Then there’s lots of hardwork and team work, from Producer, to writers, actors, and others. We are not allowed to fall sick. We would have to work 22 days a month even after taking anti-biotic pills. The child artists go to school, complete their study and come to shoot. Sometime their tuition is arranged on set.”
Then how come you went to London and took a break from this serial for few episodes? We asked Jethalal, and he replied:”I had asked Producer Aasit Modi to permit me to join my relative’s wedding in London before the serial started. At that time we had not imagined that the serial would be so successful. Aasit kept his promise and allowed me to go to London. That too became part of the story then.”
So how’s your life before this serial and after that? We asked Dayabhabhi(Disha Wakani), and her reply: “Totally changed! I am from Ahmedabad, but shifted to Mumbai with my family, and acted in several Gujarati dramas. But this show has changed my life. In London or in the US, wherever I go, the people of India come to meet at the airports. I can’t play Garba like a common person as I used to do before this serial, anymore. I am thankful to Dilip Joshi for his cooperation, director Dharmesh Mehta who created my popular Garba style, and Producer who made my role more significant compare to Tarak Mehta’s original series in text in which Dayabhabhi was just a minor character.”
The serial has completed its 450 episodes. While Gokuldham society’s outdoor set is standing in Film-city, the indoor sequences are filmed at location in Kandivali area of Mumbai. The actors couldn’t watch their episodes at scheduled 8.30 pm, because of shooting hours. However now, the Producer has put a TV on the set location.
