Congress opposes compulsory voting bill in assembly(Video)
Gandhinagar, February, 2011
You need to understand the plot before watching this video. Modi government has clubbed two issues in one bill:(1) 50% reservation in local bodies and (2)Compulsory voting in Gujarat. While Congress accepts proposal to implement 50% reservation for women, it is opposing the proposal of compulsory voting in the state. This clubbed bill was passed by Gujarat assembly in past with BJP’s majority vote. However it was not approved at higher level(Governor of Gujarat and President of India approved any bill before it becomes a law. If they are not agree they can return the bill suggesting some amendments to the state government) and was returned. The Gujarat government yesterday passed the bill again with majority vote in its original form. It is obvious that the bill will be against returned. What Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil is demanding is separation of two issues. He says while Congress is ready to support 50% reservation for women, it demands a separate bill for that, and that is the practical way to speedily convert this bill into a law. He says the compulsory voting bill should be separated from this bill. Watch the video.
