It’s time to say bye bye to Ahmedabad one of the first mall/multiplex facility.

Fun Republic has closed its door permanently after about ten years of full/partial operation.

A grand building that was the centre point of Ahmedabad’s youths in 21st century’s initial years closed its door before two weeks.

Fun Republic used to be a prominent place for the city’s youth to hang out in first five years of this century. Being one of the first malls/multiplexes in Ahmedabad, Fun Republic attracted people from all parts of the city and even outside. The brightly lit atrium and a 6 screen multiplex gave a totally new entertainment and shopping experience to the people of Ahmedabad.

But the mall that was closed down a year ago. The shops on the ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor closed down one by one. However the multiplex on the 3rd and 4th floor were still crowded with people. Unfortunately the multiplex also closed down on 30th June 2011.

According to the sources even on Saturday the shows had to be cancelled by the authorities due to insufficient viewers. Sources also said that the shops were closed down a year ago but the Air conditioning and lighting had to be kept on for the whole day since the people used to be in the atrium. The facility owners were unable to bear the electricity bill. 2 out 6 screens were closed down a month ago and the remaining four screens were finally closed down on 30th July.
