This is an amazing story of NRI Gujarati Surendra Patel’s survival and the story is available on tape, thanks to surveillance cameras that caught every angle of what happened in Patel’s store in Columbia market on Hampshire Pike.
Last Friday when Surendra Patel was in his store, one Eric Whitaker(40) who was following a woman just plowed his pick-up into the store. Whitaker reportedly was trying to rundown his ex-girlfriend(37) who had just entered into Patel’s store.
The video showed he missed the woman, but the car actually collides with the store owner and clerk Surendra Patel. Patel was crushed under debris, but then somehow emerged and walks away.
Seeing the incident, one nurse left her SUV and rushed to the store. Whitaker stole her SUV, but immediately collided head on with a bread truck. Whitaker was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. Patel suffered minor bumps and bruises, but is home recovering.
Surendra Patel avoided talking with media, but his son Dipen said his father was really luck to survive the crash.
