Ahmedabad’s Bus Rapid Transit System(BRTS) Janmarg will issue smart cards o passengers from 1st January 2012.

A smart card means freedom from standing in queue, freedom from needy change, freedom from buying ticket every time.

According to a statement issued by the AMC, the Janmagar smart card with lifetime validity will be available at any of 67 stations for non refundable amount of Rs 25. A card can be recharged for Rs 50 or more, in the ratio of Rs 50 at any BRTS bus station. Such card can be used by one person at a time.

A passenger will be able to know the balance of his smart card through the screen of card sensor set up in the bus-station. Each entry into the bus station will cost Rs 2 if you come out from the same station, and maximum fare of Rs 21 will be cut if you don’t make your card touching the screen. This rate will be as per the minimum and maximum fare.

Barrier gate will be opened through touch of the smart card automatically. Similarly, after the journey the card will be used to open the gate automatically for only one person. If you avoid the touch, maximum fare will be cut from your card balance. If you jump the gate, you will be fined for Rs 100.

Maximum time available to passenger after entry with the smart card and termination of journey would be 100 minutes. If smart card is lost, no refund will be given. Faulty smart card can be changed to new card for Rs 5. A card which has technical defect/fault and not readable will be exchanged for free. For this a toll free number of BRTS is 1800-233-2030. Keeping smart card in possession during the journey is mandatory. When a checking team seeks the card, it will have to be produced by the passenger.
