Photos: Visit to a garden in Ahmedabad, reserved for women
March 09, 2012

Ahmedabad, 9 March, 2012
Here are the photographs of Ahmedabad’s first garden that has been declared reserved for women and children below 14 years in the afternoon time. The garden is situated on North western side of the Iskon mall off SG Highway.
There’s no sign board yet outside the garden informing the males that they should not enter inside in restricted hours. However there are plenty of security men deployed on three gates of the garden to tell the boys that they can’t enter inside in the afternoon hours.
The garden has a lake, but the residents nearby have fixed their drainage connections to the pipeline that carries storm water to the lake. This has made the water smelly. The garden has no facility for children, such as slides, swings etc. There’s a toilet in the garden, but just one, there’s need to create another toilet on the other side of the garden.
Mahakali mandir is touching the garden without any boundary wall. This means, one can enter inside from the mandir side, and there’s no one to prevent it.
Yesterday the garden was opened by the Mayor, but all the security guards are male. When in the afternoon hour the garden is reserved for women, there needs to be a women security guards here.
The garden otherwise is superb. Earlier it was maintained by AUDA, but for sometime it is under AMC.
The garden is well kept, and even if you decide to visit it for few minutes, you will not leave it for at least an hour. There are large lawns, good sitting arrangements, tall trees and one of the best pathway for walking.
