Current status of dedicated freight corridors in Gujarat
May 11, 2012
Press release, Ahmedabad, 11 May 2012
Two dedicated freight corridors are under construction by a fully owned Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Ministry of Railways, i.e. Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL).
Western DFC covering 1490 kms from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Maharashtra to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh is being constructed in two phases with the financial assistance from Government of Japan.
The Phase-I of the project for which loan agreement has been signed, is covering 930 kms from Rewari to Vadodara passing through states of Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Out of 3 sections under Phase-I, the section between Palanpur and Vadodara is fully within the state of Gujarat where land acquisition and other works are in progress.
In the entire Western DFC, Resettlement and Rehabilitation plan (RRP) is being monitored and decided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on behalf of the Govt. of Japan. As a project requirement, Base Line Survey is a pre-requisite to finalize the RRP by the lending agency, i.e. JICA.
The Base Line Survey in the entire Phase-I has been completed and is in progress presently from Km 0 to Km 13.40 between Wamaj and Fanner covering 13.4 kms. The alignments have been finalized based on techno-economic considerations. The completion of Base Line Survey is critical for the project in the state of Gujarat. DFCCIL is getting full cooperation from state Govt. of Gujarat and its people.
It is learnt that few unsubstantiated rumors are being spread amongst the villagers through which the DFC alignment is passing, that the alignment is undergoing a change.
It is clarified that no such change in the alignment is contemplated. The Project Affected People are, therefore, requested to extend cooperation to the Base Line Survey team which would enable the funding agency to decide requisite RRP for payment of compensation.
