Gujarat BJP leader and former union minister Kashiram Rana today said he is leaving the party. Rana is only primary member of the party. He had refused to renew his membership in ongoing membership drive of BJP in Gujarat. Now he has announced to leave the party.
Rana said, “there’s no future in party for us, we will defeat Narendra Modi in 2012.”
Rana was union Textile Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA government. He’s former member of parliament from Surat. He had also worked as Gujarat BJP president in past.
In 1989, Rana was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from Surat constituency in Gujarat. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004 from the same constituency.
In 2004 he was denied a ticket, and party fielded a newer candidate who won.
Since then, Rana was inactive and was only involved in personal life with family.
Rana is part of the Keshubhai Patel group. He was present at recent meetings at Keshubhai’s house in Gandhinagar. Keshubhai is going to announce a new political party in Gujarat by August first week. There’s no doubt that Rana will be part of it.
