Out on bail, Sajid alias Sajju Kothari nabbed again in Surat

Surat: Notorious gangster Sajju Kothari, who was recently released on bail following a Supreme Court order, was arrested again on Friday for allegedly threatening his nephew over unpaid dues.

According to the police, Akib Arif Kothari, a share trader from Nanpura, had borrowed Rs 50 lakh from Sajju Kothari’s wife, Kausarbanu, several years ago. Despite repaying Rs 20 lakh, Akib requested more time to pay the remaining amount. After Sajju, who was out on bail under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC), resumed his attempts to recover the debt, he seized Akib’s SUV and demanded full payment for its return. On Friday, Sajju and his brother Yunus confronted Akib, armed and demanding payment. During an argument, Sajju allegedly threatened Akib with a pistol. Akib’s brother Aftab called the police, leading to the arrest of both Sajju and Yunus.

A senior police official said that Sajju Kothari and his associates are involved in two GUJCTOC cases. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court with the condition that he would not enter Surat city, which he violated. Hence, he was arrested again, and further investigation is ongoing. DeshGujarat
