Gujarat Congress promises cheaper oil, gas, fertilizer(video)

Ahmedabad, 24 July 2012

It was a high profile press conference at Gujarat Congress headquarter in Ahmedabad today. Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia, former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, leader of opposition Sahktisinh Gohil, union minister Tushar Chaudhary and other major Congress leaders were present in this noon time media meet over lunch. The press conference was held for making an announcement of first out of 12 agendas of “Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan – 2012”.

The first announcement made under the “Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan 2012” today was about availability of petrol, diesel, CNG Gas and chemical fertilizers at cheaper rates in Gujarat if Congress is elected to form a government.

Gujarat Congress leaders said that if Congress is elected to power in Gujarat, large industrial houses will be asked to pay tax and petrol, diesel, CNG gas will be made available to common people at cheaper rates. This would provide relief to common hard-working people using scooter, motorcycle, taxi, truck, tractor, rickshaw, and fishing boat.

Congress leaders said that lower fuel prices will also lower down the prices of other commodities, and thus the price rise will be arrested.

They said Gujarat is only state in India where tax is levied over chemical fertilizers. It was Congress government that established GSFC, GNFC to produce fertilizers, but instead of utilizing them for smoother availability of fertilizers to Gujarat farmers, the state government has started earning profit from these units. The state govt supplies fertilizers produced in these units to other states to get subsidy benefit from centre. If Congress comes to power Gujarat, these two units will be committed to smooth availability of fertilizers to state farmers and VAT on all chemical fertilizers will be removed in Gujarat.

Congress leaders claimed that diesel is available at highest price in Gujarat compare to all other states due to highest VAT levied in Gujarat. Similar is the case of VAT levied on CNG gas and petrol in Gujarat.
