GUJCET to be replaced by CBSE’s JEE MAIN in Gujarat from 2013, provision of Gujarati question paper there:Education minister

Gandhinagar, 30 August 2012

Gujarat government’s Education department has today announced that in year 2013 Engineering and Pharmacy admission procedure, the state government will replace existing GUJCET with CBSE’s JEE Main.

Also while creating a merit list, 50% weightage will be given to JEE Main score and 50% weightage will be given to higher secondary examination board’s 12th result. Also instead of percentage of the candidate, his/her percentile rank will be taken into consideration while preparing merit list.

It should be mentioned that CBSE has taken a decision to hold JEE Main exam instead of AIEEE from year 2013. The exam is scheduled to take place on 7 April 2013. This exam will be similar to AIEEE and it will have only one question paper containing physics, chemistry and maths. A question paper will be available in any of three languages – Hindi, English and Gujarati. The question paper will be in objective style. Applications for this exam will be accepted online at proper time after CBSE’s announcement in this regard.

Meanwhile the central government and IIT council have decided that any student who wants to join IIT will have to be in first 1.5 lakh students in JEE Main exam, and must have 80% or more percentile score in his/her board exam. This means he/she must be among 20% best students in his/her board, and then only he/she would be able to sit in JEE Advance exam. This exam will decide his/her chances of admission in IIT. It simly means that the students who don’t want to join IIT will have to sit only in JEE Main exam.

Announcing this major decision, state Education minister Ramanlal Vora today said that thanks to Gujarat government’s this decision to replace GUJCET with JEE Main, the students who presently need to appear in minimum three exams – GUJCET, AIEEE or IIT-JEE will now have to give only one exam if they want to join NIT or government institutes. Thus their exam fee will be saved and mental stress will decrease.

The minister further said that std 11/12’s Science stream syllabus is now matching to CBSE standard therefore there are no chances that Gujarati students will face any problem compare to other students. Especially as the question paper is going to be in Gujarati, the students will save their money and time.

The minister added that some institutes in Gujarat like Nirma, Dhirubhai Ambani, Deendayal institute used to admit students through AIEEE score, but now they will also give admission through only one exam which is JEE Main. Through the centralized ACPC based admission, all students will be benefited as they will need to file application form only at one place.
