Vadodara, 20 September 2012
When asked to react to the statement of some of the UPA allies that they don’t withdraw support to Congress-led UPA in centre citing danger of communal forces capturing power, BJP’s national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman today said that there’s no political party in India which was not supporting BJP in past. Sitharaman added that Congress is actually a communal party.
“There’s not a single party in India that was not with the BJP in past. If they are speaking about communalism, then what about the Congress Law Minister in centre who in support of his wife in Farukhabad delivered false promises.Wasn’t that communal? If they don’t want to stay with communal party, then they should stop supporting Congress party,” she said.
Sitharaman was in Vadodara today to support the Bharat bandh call given by the BJP.
It should be mentioned that senior SP leader Ramgopal Yadav had said the Samajwadi Party will have to come to UPA’s assistance because of the “secular compulsion” to stop the BJP.
Yadav further told an English newspaper that the consideration to thwart BJP’s advance has become greater in the wake of a big section of the saffron outfit wanting to project Narendra Modi as PM.
On Wednesday Congress leader and minister Rajiv Shukla had appealed secular parties to continue to support the UPA because political instability would benefit Modi.
It’s a lame duck government
When asked about UPA, Sitharaman said, “the UPA has lost right to govern. Their every step is going against the people. This is a lame duck government.”
“Mamtaji has clearly spoken about pulling out the support. The government is now in minority and has lost its credibility,” she further said.
“We clearly want to tell SP and BSP that if they are with the people and against this government, then should come out in open,” she said when asked about SP/BSP.
She added that this government will fall due to its own contradictions.
“I am here to support the bandh call given by BJP. We can see here how peacefully the people have shown their anger and observed bandh by shutting down their works. This is a message to the government in centre. The government in Delhi has completely lost its support. Even their alliance partners are not with them, forget the people,” she said.
