Ahmedabad, 24 September 2012
Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal were in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today to talk about their soon-to-be-released Hindi entertainment film OMG Oh My God! The film is produced by Akshay Kumar and directed by Umesh Shukla. The film also features Mithun Chakraborty in main role. The film is adapted from a Gujarati play “Kanji Viruddh Kanji.” It also has influences of Paresh Rawal’s Hindi drama “Krishan vs Kanhaiya”. The film will be released on 28 September 2012.
Speaking in media interaction, Akshay said he would play a role of Lord Krishna in this film. He said his lot of staff is Gujarati, his wife is Gujarati, his partner in this film is Gujarat, his director is Gujarati, the film is taken from a Gujarati play, his many friends are Gujaratis, and he has many Gujarati connections.
“My first film Sogand didn’t work anywhere in the world but worked in Gujarat, so I have a very strong bond and connection with Gujarat,” Akshay said adding that maximum business of his films come from Gujarat.
“I see God in the human being rather than seeing God in the stone, that is my bhakti all about,” Paresh Rawal said.
Akshay said he believes Mandir stays inside mann. Akshay said he has seen a Hindi drama based on which the film has been made.
“If you keep on like recent Gujarati film ‘Kevi Rite Jaish’ the films are bound to run,” Paresh said when asked about Gujarati film.
“This film is very important for me and Paresh, because when I saw his play for the first time, I laughed out loudly, but when the play was over I realized that I learnt something. After seeing his play, my way of praying God changed completely. I understand that the God lives within our mann. We decided that we would make this film not to earn money, but because it is must for the mankind. Today we fight in the name of religion. I think if people can watch this film and understand that the God is just one, it’s worth. Therefore we put our money in this film,” Akshay said.
Akshay said the film will surely work if it is a good film.
“In this poor country the kind of money we use for rituals could be better spent on hospitals, schools and other useful things,” Paresh said adding that the number of people being killed in the name of God is ridiculous.
Paresh said that sex and religion should be practiced in private, never in public. He said the country should put religion on back burner for five years.
Paresh said the film has its own beauty. It contains all that we could not contain in drama. Temperature of film and drama is different.
Paresh said those who have seen the drama will also enjoy the film because they will be surprised with the new scenes.
“Gujarat is very close to my heart and Ahmedabad has developed much, but the color is same, the flavor is same, it’s not like Mumbai that experienced chaos in the name of development. I think wherever there are Gujaratis, they don’t change the flavor. Gujarat will not change, it will see development but originality will remain intact. I have memories of my village but nowadays when I go there I see toasts and other things which don’t contain the smell of the ground,” Paresh said.
