Ahmedabad, 15 October 2012
The Election Commission of India today ordered to stop online registration process for free laptop scheme for youths on Gujarat Congress website.
The decision was taken in view of the code of conduct effective in the state.
Gujarat Congress had launched registration for free laptop scheme in last week of September before election code of conduct. The party continued its online registration process even after code of conduct was declared in the state. Not only this but the party gave advertisements in newspapers inviting youths to register for free laptop draw.
While earlier announcement of Gujarat Congress was about giving away 48 laptops free through draw system, the latest advertisement claimed daily draw for one free laptop to students.
The Election Commission had received complains on such advertisements and schemes from across the state. Lately today the EC has asked to stop this process.
