Ahmedabad, 5 November 2012
BJP MLA Bhavsinh Rathod today joined Congress party in a function in Ahmedabad.
Rathod’s existing assembly seat ceases to exist in a new delimitation scenario. He wanted to contest from neighboring seat which is represented by powerful BJP leader Shankarbhai Chaudhary.
Bhavsinh is basically a Congress man, but had joined BJP after he was denied ticket to contest Lok Sabha election in 2009 on Patan seat. Bhavsinh resigned from Congress, also vacated his assembly seat and contested the Lok Sabha poll on BJP ticket, but couldn’t win. He again contested assembly by-poll on the same seat from which he had resigned and came back to assembly as BJP MLA.
Bhavsinh had been in jail in decoity and drug trafficking cases in past. His son was arrested in fake currency case.
Recently in a public meeting he was heard as saying that he would joined the party that would promise him ticket and ministry both.
“To consider him as long time BJP loyalist would be a mistak,” DeshGujarat said in May 2009
